Life as an nfpSynergy Intern

Interns discussing important business

Life as an nfpSynergy Intern

Sadly, my time at nfpSynergy is winding down and someone new will soon take my place. I thought I would take this time to reflect on my work and share my experiences so that applicants can know what being an Intern with the Business Development team is like.

When I first learnt I got the position of Business Development Intern for nfpSynergy, I was thrilled. Mainly because I had been looking for a job for months and was happy to be offered any paid position. It wasn’t until I started working that I realised the greatness of my fortune. I have never had a job where I was given such thorough training and made to feel so welcome. My line manager, Christine, was not only competent and supportive, but also fun. In just three months I have gained valuable skills in web editing and design, CRM software, marketing strategies, and sales tactics. All of these skills will contribute greatly to my career, and I am confident that my CV will now stand out to employers in ways that it didn’t before.

As a Business Development Intern I am in charge of sending out the monthly newsletter, updating the client area, managing client details, updating the CRM database, contributing to sales and marketing, producing internal documents, and various day to day administrative tasks (which often include buying cake). As an Intern I have had the opportunity to contribute to the company and have always been encouraged to share my ideas.

One of the best things about working at nfpSynergy is being able to work for the third sector. Working for a company that supplies the third sector with a product has given me a better understanding of issues facing the sector and has broadened my knowledge. The volume of research that nfpSynergy produces is overwhelming at first, and it took me a while to get my bearings, but now that I understand the in’s and out’s, I have a deeper appreciation for the work that nfpSynergy does, and am proud to say that I work here.

While the work at nfpSynergy is varied and fulfilling, it is the people that make nfpSynergy a great place to work. If you have a problem, there is always someone who is willing to help. Not only is the team hard-working and professional, they are also fun to hang out with after work. Working with a group of like-minded people who share similar values, has been a real pleasure, and I genuinely enjoy coming to work every day.

I would love to stay at nfpSynergy longer but I have the once in a lifetime opportunity to work at the Olympics this summer. I start at the beginning of July so nfpSynergy is recruiting now for someone to start before I leave. The position has also changed a bit with a more marketing focus in mind. Go here for the full job description and to apply for this internship.
