Beanstalk is a national charity that provides one-to-one literacy support to children who struggle with their reading ability and confidence.
The charity was looking to commission desk research bringing together contextual insight to inform its strategy to 2020, with a focus on service development. nfpSynergy synthesised a range of materials collected by Beanstalk on the topics of schools, literacy, educational landscape, role of digital technology in schools, volunteering, fundraising, and opportunities analysis. Sources included internal research carried out by Beanstalk, as well as a variety of material ranging from academic/policy documents to news and articles.
The final output for this research was a set of slides with key findings on each topic. This delivered key insight into the changing face of UK education, and identified areas of greatest need for literacy support in schools across the UK to inform Beanstalk’s future strategy. Headlines from the research were also presented at a Strategy Day attended by Beanstalk’s management staff.
